Great Hiking Adventure Ideas

Hikes to consider if you’re inclined to go do a walk-about or a just some ideas on famous trails that the average hiker could do.

1. Peru – Inca Trail -May to September – up to 43k and 4 day trail to the forgotten city of Machu Picchu.  You can also just hike for a couple hours up the mountain to get to Machu Picchu or for that matter, take a bus to the entrance

2. USA Pacific Coast Trail (PCT) – 2663 miles – months – summer months – Washington, Oregon, California

3. USA Appalachian Trail – Georgia to Maine – 2,185 miles – summer months

4. USA Continental Divide Trail (CDT) – New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana – 3,100 miles – months – summer months

5. Columbia – Lost City – 44km – 5 days -December to March – Hike to the Lost City of Teyuna

6. Nepal – Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit – up to 60km and up to 2 weeks – August to September

7. Tanzania – Kilimanjaro – Hike one of the 7 summits – up to 34km – 5 to 6 days – September to March

8. France/Italy – Haute Route – from Chamonix valley in France to Zermatt, Switzerland – See the Matterhorn and Mount Blanc – up to 180km and 12 days – June to September.

9. Argentina/Chili – Patagonia Torres Del Paine National Park Circuit – up to 130km and 10 days – December to March

18.  Mali – Pays Dragon – from West Africa and passes through the majestic Bandiagara Escarpment. – up to 10 days

19. New Zealand – The Routeburn Track – 20-mile trek passes through two national parks, Fiordland and Mount Aspiring.

20. Italy – Sentiero Azzuro (Blue Trail) – AKA Cinque Terre Hike – The Blue Trail connects the five villages of Cinque Terre and can be completed in a day.

21. Scotland – West Highland Way – 96 mile trail through the Scottish Highlands –

22. Tibet – Snowman Trek – This high-altitude ball-buster crosses 11 passes over 14,000 feet along the Tibet-Bhutan border.

23. USA – Utah – Zion National Park – The Narrows in Zion National Park provides breathtaking scenery throughout it’s 26km (16 miles) trek – Summertime, when water is not high.

24. Corsica – The GR20 trail in Corsica is a legendary hike spanning 168km (104 miles).

25. India – The Indian Himalayas’ trail in Himachal Pradesh is a remote trek will see you travel for up to 24 days.

26. Tasmania – Situated in Tasmania, The Overland Track is 80km (50 miles) long and takes about six days to complete.

27. Pakistan – K2 Hike – 15 day hike will take you through and over Paiju (6,610m, 21,686ft), Uli Biaho (6,417m, 21,053ft), Great Trango Tower (6,286m, 20,623ft) and finally K2 (8,611m, 28,251ft)

28. New Zealand – Tongariro Northern Circuit – Also known as ‘The New Zealand Great Walk‘ – up to 31 miles

29. Argentina – Mount Fitz Roy trek – can be concurred using various routes, with the average hike measuring around 64km (40 miles).

30. Peru – The Santa Cruz Trek is one of Peru’s most popular walks – longer version of the Inca trail hike.

31. Jordan – 80km (50 miles) hike across the desert-to Petra.

32. Canada – 75km (47 miles) long trail along the southwestern coast of Vancouver Island.

33. Sweden – Hike in 1,220 square kilometres (760 square miles) of untouched terrain, Sweden’s Sarek National Park.

34. Hawaii – Muliwai Trail – The most rigorous hike in Hawaii – the 28km (18 miles) Muliwai trail will see you pass through the Waipi’o and Waimanu Valleys.

35. Ireland – Croagh Patrick- 3 mile hike – One of the most hiked places in Ireland.

36. Switzerland – Alps – well, pretty much the entire country for that matter.  Check out Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland area.

37. Austria – Alps – The Austrian Alps offer numerous hiking trails for everyone and at varying levels of expertise.

38. South Africa – North Drakensberg Traverse – This  64km (40 miles) walk sits between The Kingdom of Lesotho and South Africa.

39. Scotland – Hardest trek the United Kingdom has to offer, the hiking trail across Cape Wrath will take up to 20+ days and cover 321km (200 miles).

40. Ethiopia- The Simien Mountains National Park has a vast array of hiking trails available for all levels of hikers.

41. Greenland – AKA The Arctic Circle Trail – this 160km (100 miles) long hike will take you from Kangerlussuaq to one of the most remote places of Earth Sisimiut via the world’s second largest glacier.

42. Hawaii – Kalalau Trail – 35km (22 miles) long, this trail along the Na Pali Coast in Kaua’i has been known to be as dangerous as it is spectacular.

43. Bolivia – Cordillera Apolobamba – 104km (65 miles) trek along the Peru border.
